Here is a fairly
complete list of "my computers of the past".
Obviously this list is oldest to newest.
My first encounter with a computer was with a Timex 1000 in
1982. My Dad bought this with the 16k memory upgrade,
cassette drive and thermal printer.
1983 brought us the Commodore 64! We had the 1541 Disk
Drive, MPS-801 printer, cassette drive, joysticks, quite a
bit of software and a SONY monitor. There is still a lot
that can be done with a C64 believe it or not. Even
internet surfing.
Don't believe me - Here is a site running on a C64 as the
server!
In 1985 we tried the "new" Commodore plus/4. It was not
compatible with any of the C64 software and was pretty much
useless.

We had our first MS-DOS machine in 1986. It was a Tandy
1000 from Radio Shack. It was a cool machine and we were
able to play MS Flight Simulator and much better games.
We also had many of the game systems of the era including
the Atari 2600 & Intellivision and prior to those we
had the Atari Stunt Cycle and Video Pinball consoles. These
were units without cartridges. In fact we traded in the
Video Pinball console to get $100 off of the Commodore 64.
It was a promotion at the time.
We jump to 1996 and I got back into the computer world and
my interest in the internet. I bought a Compaq Presario
2100 with a 180 mhz CYRIX MX processor and Windows 95.
In 1999 I ordered a custom configured Presario 5600i w/ TFT
5000 flat screen LCD monitor from Compaq. It was a 500 mhz
Pentium III and Windows 98. I really enjoyed this one.
My first laptop was a Compaq Armada 500M, just before Y2K.
It featured a magnesium case and was tough.
We needed a kids computer in early 2000. I picked up an
eMachines eOne for next to nothing. It served as a guest
room / kids PC.
The wife needed a PC of her own and I got her a Compaq iPaq
desktop. It was a very small form factor and served her
well for a few years.
In 2001 I replaced the Armada laptop with a Presario
1700XL.
I built my first PC in 2002. It was time for a new computer
and I figured that I would get the parts and do it myself.
This is the case that I picked. Green aluminum with a side
window!
2003 was a year of change for us. We switched to Apple
computers. After many Windows problems we made the leap and
have never looked back. I got an iMac 17", what a computer
this was. My dad still uses it to this day.
My first Apple laptop was an iBook G3.
We added a used eMac as the kids computer.
I then switched my wife to an iMac, she has the iMac G5
with a 17" screen.
This Everex Explora 2800 is our last Windows XP machine. It
is just for an occasional test project or making C64
floppies.
I replaced the G3 iBook with a iBook G4, (both 12"
screens). Great small size, lightweight (under 5 lbs.)
laptop and perfect for travel.
In 2006 I replaced the 17" iMac with a 20" iMac G5 2.1ghz
w/ 2.5 GB RAM w/ built in iSight.
In 2009 I replaced the 20" iMac G5 with a 27" iMac 3.06 ghz
dual core intel chip w/ 8 GB RAM w/ built in iSight. This
is the first iMac to have an LED screen.
